Interview With A Maker
Name/Business

Describe your art/craft?
Landscape photography of scenes of Aldeburgh and the surrounding areas in the form of beautiful fine art prints and greeting cards.
How long have you been creating? How did you learn your craft or were you self-taught?
I'm a self-taught photographer, and have been a professional photographer for over 20 years. I originally started out as a portrait photographer, where I was fortunate enough to win numerous national and international awards. I am a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, The British Institute of Professional Photography, and the Master Photographers Association. In the last year or so, I have ventured into the world of fine art photography, and I'm loving it!
What are your favourite art/craft 'tools of the trade'?
I guess that would be my camera - a Canon R5.
Where is your creative space?
Its a very large space! Namely Aldeburgh and the surrounding areas where most of my fine art photos are taken.
What do you watch or listen to when you're creating?
When I'm taking the photos, I'm watching the light and the clouds (I LOVE clouds!), and listening to the sea.
When I'm editing, I like to listen to the radio. LBC in the morning and Radio 2 in the afternoon. I'm also love listening to some hard rock and heavy metal too!
What's your best selling product?
It's a photograph of the Scallop sculpture on Aldeburgh beach taken at sunrise. It's available as a fine art print and a greeting card. Both sell very well, which is nice!
Favourite thing you've ever created? Do you still have it, or did you sell/gift it?
Unquestionably it would be the panel of work entitled; 'Black On White' that I produced for my Fellowship distinction with the RPS, BIPP and MPA. It's a collection of black and white fine art nudes that celebrate the beauty of black skin in black and White photography. It's the best work I have ever produced. I still have the collection and they are available to purchase as beautiful fine art giclee prints.
Random fact about yourself?
I was once a contestant on Blankety Blank (with Les Dawson). I still have the cheque book!
What new craft would you love to try?
I would like to try illustration, but I know I'm a terrible illustrator! I am however exploring illustration using AI - with mixed results!
Where can customers buy your products?
You can see and purchase my collection of images that are available as fine art prints and greeting cards at: www.calvertfineart.co.uk
Give a shout-out to a fellow artist or crafter you admire!
I'll say Daniel Ian - a very talented landscape photographer based in Aldeburgh.
