Interview With A Maker
Name/Business
Amanda - Felt like 8
Describe your art/craft?
I create needle felted items using just a needle and some lovely soft wool!
How long have you been creating? How did you learn your craft or were you self-taught?
I am completely self taught, with a bit of help from various websites at the beginning. I have been needle felting for about 3 years now.
What are your favourite art/craft 'tools of the trade'?
My tools are few! I use a felting needle, foam pad and lots of wool. I get very excited when a new delivery of gorgeous coloured wool arrives!
Where is your creative space?
I have a favourite rocking chair that is just the right position to sit in to felt. However, I have been known to take my needle to various places, I have sat in waiting rooms with my fluff... but you do get some funny looks!
What do you watch or listen to when you're creating?
The reason I prefer needle to wet felting is that I can sit and watch the telly! But not anything with subtitles... that's when I stab myself!
What's your best selling product?
I am really proud of how many of my kingfishers have flown around the world.
What is your most favourite piece of work you've ever created? Do you still have it, or did you sell/gift it?
I loved making a Blue Persian kitten for Val (of the knitting stall) which was by far the fluffiest thing I have ever made!
Random fact about yourself?
Bizarrely, my usual random fact is that I make felt things! But you already know that!
What new craft would you love to try?
I think I'd love to try stained glass or fused glass - it's the colours again! Love them!
Where can customers buy your products?
I have an Etsy shop, Feltlike8.
Name a fellow artist or crafter you admire!
All the gorgeous stall holders at the Southwold Makers Market!!!
