Fran's Upcycling
Fran upcycles various pieces of furniture including chairs, small tables and trays etc. No more living in a throwaway society... Fran's furniture is all beautifully painted, she has a great eye for detail, and by using bold colours she's giving older or unwanted pieces a fresh lift and thereby extending the life and usability.
Interview With A Maker
Name/Business
Frans' Upcycling.
I am also a Trauma Counsellor
Describe your art/craft?
Upcycling of old brown furniture using chalk paints, fabrics etc. I love bright colours but have painted some things in more mute colours which might appeal to buyers!
How long have you been creating? How did you learn your craft or were you self-taught?
Self taught. Since last year. Mostly because I was determined not to move all brown furniture into my new home..
What are your favourite art/craft 'tools of the trade'?
Chalk paint and the sealing wax to help the paint to last... fine brushes! I prefer Vimtro Chalk paint as there are a greater variety of colours.
Where is your creative space?
My kitchen at the moment!
What do you watch or listen to when you're creating?
Sometimes to music..
What's your best selling product?
Don't know yet!
Favourite thing you've ever created? Do you still have it, or did you sell/gift it?
My dad's old clock, which is not for sale!
Random fact about yourself?
I used to live in a refugee camp in HK when i was working there!
What new craft would you love to try?
Glass etching...
Where can customers buy your products?
Southwold and Reydon market, online, or at the Southwold Makers Market at the moment
Give a shout-out to a fellow artist or crafter you admire!
Really like the lady who makes the earrings in the SMM
