Interview With A Maker
Name/Business
Linda Robson: Intambo Creations (Intambo being the Zulu word for thread)
Describe your art/craft?
Mostly sewing and machine embroidery. Recently we, that is my partner and I, have started up-cycling cutlery into coat hooks and jewellery.
How long have you been creating? How did you learn your craft or were you self-taught?
I learnt to sew at school, and have always owned a sewing machine. I taught myself to use an embroidery machine about 18 years ago, and quickly progressed to digitising my own designs, another self taught skill.
What are your favourite art/craft 'tools of the trade'?
My embroidery machine. An expensive piece of kit that I love.
Where is your creative space?
The spare room houses all my machines, but I have been known to spread myself throughout the house if I’m very busy.
What do you watch or listen to when you're creating?
If the embroidery machine is running I can’t even hear myself think, so I don’t tend to listen or watch anything whilst creating.
What's your best selling product?
Embroidered cushions.
Favourite thing you've ever created? Do you still have it, or did you sell/gift it?
I made a double bed quilt during lockdown in 2020. I have never made a quilt that large and surprised myself with the result. It now sits proudly at the end of my bed.
Random fact about yourself?
Born in the UK but grew up in South Africa. I won a national Ice Skating competition when I was a teenager and used to take part in Ice shows.
What new craft would you love to try?
Pottery and stained glass
Where can customers buy your products?
Various craft fairs in Suffolk. The odd pop up shop and by contacting me direct.
Give a shout-out to a fellow artist or crafter you admire!
Sandra Rushton, the artist behind the Sanntangle brand. She kept me sane during the COVID-19 lockdown.
