Interview With A Maker
Name/Business
Knitting Kitten
Describe your art/craft?
Hand knitted items ranging from hats, scarfs and gloves to dog coats and baby and childrens clothes and blankets. Basically if it can be knitted I will knit it
How long have you been creating? How did you learn your craft or were you self-taught?
I’ve been knitting ever since I can remember. I taught myself and have gradually gone on to do more and more complicated patterns. My daughter Talia had an impressive range of knitwear when she was a child, not always appreciated by her! I am now knitting for her first baby, our first grandchild, due in May
What are your favourite art/craft 'tools of the trade'?
I love using bamboo needles, the wool doesn’t slip off and they don’t make the clacking noise associated with knitters. I love using all types of yarn as long as it’s soft
Where is your creative space?
I was very lucky this year as for my birthday my husband Colin converted our spare bedroom into a craft room for me. So I now have all my yarn and equipment on display in shelving, which he thinks will make me buy less yarn as I can see what I’ve already got. I don’t think that will happen lol.
What do you watch or listen to when you're creating?
I watch TV while I knit. I love a good British drama. Vera is one of my favourites along with Call the Midwife.
What's your best selling product?
My hats are always good sellers. I love to mix up the colours with different coloured fur pom poms as a contrast.
Favourite thing you've ever created? Do you still have it, or did you sell/gift it?
I love making picture blankets. I make these to order for customers. But my favourite is my most recent one, a Wee Willie Winkie blanket I’ve made for Talia’s baby.
Random fact about yourself?
I am a self confessed cat lady. We have two Ragdoll cats Ronnie and Reggie aka The Kray Kittens, who live up to their names and are spoilt rotten.
What new craft would you love to try?
I would love to try needle felting
Where can customers buy your products?
All my products can be bought at the various craft fayres I attend all of which I advertise on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/Knitting-Kitten-2692983577398480
