Millie's Natural Soaps
Millie's Natural Soaps are all made with top quality ingredients which include shea butter and coconut oil. Millie avoids using chemicals such as fragrance oils, perfumes or dyes. Instead her soaps are enriched with natural essential oils and any colourings are also natural such as French pink clay, spinach (green), cocoa (brown), paprika (orange), and turmeric (yellow). Millie also uses compostable packaging which is beneficial to the environment.

Interview With A Maker
Name/Business
Millie’s Natural Soaps
Describe your art/craft?
Natural Soaps with pure essential oils and natural colourings. Recently experimenting with natural hair shampoos and conditioners.
How long have you been creating? How did you learn your craft or were you self-taught?
I have been creating soaps for approximately three years. I’ve always had an interest in essential
oils and how they can be blended together. The essential-oils soaps that I have tried in the past
have a “factory” feel and I wanted to use a natural product, but these can be expensive. I
therefore attended a course, learning the basics of soap making in North Norfolk, and the chemical reaction with oils and essential oils. I have researched many different oils and which ones blend well with each other. All my soaps have been assessed by the Cosmetic Industry following the same strict rules and regulations as high street brands.
What are your favourite art/craft 'tools of the trade'?
A bain-marie is essential for soap makers and watching all the oils gently melt in together.
I love essential oils and experimenting with these can be fun!
Where is your creative space?
My creative space is in my kitchen.
What do you watch or listen to when you're creating?
I generally like to work in silence as it’s essential that all ingredients are 100% accurate and
temperature and timing is key although sometimes a little light music can be therapeutic.
What's your best selling product?
I make a beautiful exfoliating soap using poppyseeds, lemongrass, rosemary and a hint of
peppermint. This is a great selling product all year round and especially during the gardening
months.
Favourite thing you've ever created? Do you still have it, or did you sell/gift it?
I love creating fun character soaps which are always a hit, especially during Christmas and these
always sell out. However, at the moment my favourite are my dinosaur and seashell soaps and
these are very popular with children.
Random fact about yourself?
I have been fortunate to have travelled extensively over the years. Highlights include such as
swimming with turtles and getting up close with an erupting volcano in the Pacific, whale watching in South Africa, eating piranha on the banks of the Orinoco and bathing in a geothermal pool in the Andes. Seeing and experiencing these things reinforce the beauty and power of nature and demonstrate that we need to be so careful how we share our very special planet.
What new craft would you love to try?
I would love to give hand crafted pottery on a wheel, or even glass blowing a try. I love creating
and then using what I have made...!
