Sea Green Glass Art
Describe your art/craft?
Decorative stained glass pieces to hang in windows and on walls, featuring seaglass from Suffolk beaches.
How long have you been creating? How did you learn your craft or were you self-taught?
I've been working with glass properly for about 18 months and was taught by Naomi Brangwyn, an amazing stained glass artist in Felixstowe.
What are your favourite art/craft 'tools of the trade'?
Apart from the glass itself which is just beautiful, I don't really have a favourite tool. My partner gave me a set of heavy-duty, professional-grade pliers and wire cutters for Christmas that I'm still in love with...
Where is your creative space?
I work between my son's bedroom at home (he's studying in America this year) and Old Jet, where I share a room with 6 other women. But I have my best ideas when I'm walking across the fields with our dog.
What do you watch or listen to when you're creating?
I like working in silence when I'm cutting and grinding glass, and then I put Radio 4 on when I'm soldering.
What's your best selling product?
The shoals of fish. The ones with 7 are most popular as they're not too expensive, but the bigger ones also sell well.
What is your most favourite piece of work you've ever created? Do you still have it, or did you sell/gift it?
I still love the first shoal of fish I made - it's got 28 fish and 10 pieces of seaglass - and it's on my bathroom wall. But I also really like a recent piece I made - Winter Branch - with leaves made from 4 differently textured clear glasses, a few red opaque glass berries and 2 pieces of white seaglass. That one's for sale...
Random fact about yourself?
I love daffodils, they are probably my favourite flower.
What new craft would you love to try?
I'd love to make a mosaic.
Where can customers buy your products?
From various makers' markets or by messaging me through instagram, facebook and (hopefully soon) my website.
Name a fellow artist or crafter you admire!
I love Jelly Green's work www.instagram.com/jellygreenartist/ , her trees and leaves paintings particularly. And who doesn't love Grayson Perry.
