Interview With A Maker
Name/Business.
Hi, I’m Karin and my business name is Suitably Silver
Describe your art/craft?
Although I’m not a silversmith I buy the charms, chains, hooks etc and assemble the bits to make lovely necklaces, earrings and bracelets. I do sell studs too by popular demand. Everything comes in a lovely gift box or organza pouch.
How long have you been creating? How did you learn your craft or were you self-taught?
I have been creating now for about 5 or 6 years and am purely self taught - thanks a lot to You Tube!
What are your favourite art/craft 'tools of the trade'?
I like trying new things. My latest is trying chainmail - but let’s just say it’s work in progress!
Where is your creative space?
I don’t have a designated space but do most of my work in my bedroom. It means there isn’t a lot of space and I can’t leave bits out to work on later.
What do you watch or listen to when you're creating?
I’ll either have an audiobook on the go or listen to my music whilst I work.
What's your best selling product?
It will vary. One time will be earrings that sell and next time it will be necklaces. That’s what I like, keeping me guessing.
Favourite thing you've ever created? Do you still have it, or did you sell/gift it?
I had a beautiful necklace with a piece of natural stone - eudialite (grey, white and red) with red crystals. It was totally unique, but I sold it.
Random fact about yourself?
I’m a fully trained falconer and used to train birds of prey (especially owls) to fly in displays for country shows.
What new craft would you love to try?
I love try new things. I’ve done pyrography, water colour painting and am now into crochet. Would like to try needlefelt portraits, paper cutting, glass fusing and pottery…. Who knows what else!
Where can customers buy your products?
I have an Etsy shop now ‘KarinsKraftyKorner’
https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/KarinsKraftyKorner
Give a shout-out to a fellow artist or crafter you admire!
Oh my! There are so many talented people out there…. Julia Catchpole for cards, Linda Robson for haberdashery crafts, most people I know by sight rather than names but I meet new and fabulous creators at every event I go to.
